On Wednesday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) wrapped up a hearing on a request from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to raise electricity tariffs by Rs. 1.20 per unit under the June 2026 Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA).
During the session, CPPA reported that 13.07 billion units of electricity were sold in June. While the benchmark fuel cost was set at Rs. 7.71 per unit, the actual cost climbed to Rs. 8.91 per unit, leading to the proposed increase.
Officials explained that the rise in fuel costs was mainly due to higher reliance on RLNG-based power generation, which is more expensive.
NEPRA member Maqsood Anwar emphasized the need to move from discussions about affordable electricity to taking real actions to ensure consumers actually receive it.
After the hearing, NEPRA reserved its final decision on the proposed adjustment, which will be announced once the review process is complete.
