The Lahore Ring Road Authority has significantly increased penalties for numerous traffic offences, with some fines rising to as much as ten times their previous amounts.
The revised penalties have been introduced under the “Safe Roads, Safe Punjab” initiative, following instructions from Punjab Ring Road Authority Chairperson Safiullah Gondal.
Licence, Speeding and Mobile Phone Penalties
Motorists caught driving without a valid licence will now face a fine of Rs. 5,000, compared with the previous Rs. 500 penalty. Drivers below the legal age will be fined Rs. 10,000.
The penalty for overspeeding and illegal overtaking has also increased. Car drivers committing these offences will pay Rs. 5,000, while drivers of vehicles with engines exceeding 2,000cc will face fines of Rs. 10,000.
Using a mobile phone behind the wheel or travelling without a seatbelt will now result in a Rs. 3,000 fine, up from Rs. 500. Meanwhile, driving in the wrong lane carries a penalty of Rs. 2,000, and travelling in the opposite direction on a one-way road will cost Rs. 5,000.
Higher Penalties for Other Traffic Offences
The fine for overloading has increased from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 7,000, while illegal parking now carries a Rs. 2,000 penalty instead of Rs. 1,000.
Vehicles emitting excessive smoke will face fines of Rs. 4,000, rising to Rs. 5,000 for commercial vehicles. Motorists using tinted windows, driving without number plates, or displaying unauthorised plates will each be fined Rs. 5,000.
Motorcycles are prohibited from entering the Lahore Ring Road, and violators will have to pay Rs. 5,000. Pedestrians caught crossing the road illegally will face a Rs. 1,000 fine, compared with the previous Rs. 200 penalty. Bringing animals onto the road will also attract a Rs. 5,000 fine.
Authorities Urge Motorists to Follow Traffic Rules
Lahore Ring Road Police have called on drivers to comply with traffic regulations and avoid violations under the revised penalty structure.
Earlier, plans were announced to install solar-powered streetlights and introduce an electronic challan system on the Ring Road. Punjab also announced increased fines for 26 traffic violations in May.
The latest measures are aimed at strengthening road safety, discouraging dangerous driving and improving compliance with traffic laws.
