Huawei has launched the FreeBuds 7 wireless earbuds alongside the Mate XT 2 at its HarmonyOS 7 launch event.
Priced at around $140, the new earbuds focus on stronger active noise cancellation (ANC), powered by Huawei’s newly developed audio AI chip.
More Powerful Noise Cancellation
The FreeBuds 7 feature Huawei’s third-generation audio AI chip, which offers twice the computing power of the previous version.
Huawei says the chip can detect surrounding sounds up to 400,000 times per second, allowing the earbuds to respond rapidly to changes in the environment.
The chip also reduces noise-processing delay to just 8 microseconds.
According to Huawei, these upgrades provide 230% greater average noise reduction compared with the previous generation, while the noise-cancellation bandwidth is 275% wider.
Lightweight Semi-In-Ear Design
The FreeBuds 7 use a semi-in-ear design instead of sitting deeply inside the ear canal.
Each earbud weighs only 4.3 grams, while Huawei has shifted the center of gravity inward by 17% to improve balance and comfort.
The earbuds come in Sunlight Orange, Midsummer Purple, Moonlight White, and Starry Black.
Huawei has also redesigned the charging case, making it 25% smaller and 17% lighter than the previous generation.
Smarter AI-Based Noise Control
Huawei has added a new AI perception noise reduction system that continuously studies the user’s surroundings and earbud positioning.
The system analyzes the environment, ear shape and earbud position more than 10,000 times per second.
Huawei says its algorithm now responds 750% faster, helping the earbuds adjust noise cancellation more quickly when surroundings change.
Improved Noise Reduction During Calls
The FreeBuds 7 also offer enhanced call noise reduction, with Huawei promoting a 100dB two-way silent call feature.
The technology is designed to reduce background sounds during conversations, helping users hear and be heard more clearly in noisy locations.
Price and Availability
Huawei has set the price of the FreeBuds 7 at 999 yuan (around $140).
The earbuds were unveiled alongside the company’s Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone and HarmonyOS 7.
