Apple May Be Set to Transform the Apple Watch Completely

Apple is considering a major redesign of the Apple Watch that could eventually introduce completely new designs, including round displays and even fitness wearables without screens.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s industrial design team has spent about a year exploring different ways to change its smartwatch lineup. However, Apple has not made a final decision about any of these designs.

A Screenless Apple Wearable

One idea Apple is exploring is a fitness wearable without a screen, similar to products such as Whoop.

This would be a big change from the Apple Watch, which has used a touchscreen since its launch in 2015. Apple is reportedly looking at screenless fitness devices as these types of wearables become more popular.

However, a screenless Apple wearable is not expected to launch in 2026. For now, it remains an idea being researched by Apple.

Removing the screen could allow Apple to create a smaller device with better battery life and offer more flexibility in how people wear it. However, Apple has not confirmed any specifications or plans for such a product.

Apple Is Also Considering a Round Apple Watch

Apple has also experimented with different screen shapes and sizes, including the possibility of a circular Apple Watch.

A round Apple Watch would be one of the biggest design changes in the product’s history. However, Gurman says a circular model is unlikely to reach the market soon.

Apple is also considering expanding its smartwatch lineup with more expensive models above the Apple Watch Ultra and Hermès versions, along with more affordable models beyond the Apple Watch SE.

Ceramic Apple Watch Could Return

The more immediate change could be the return of ceramic Apple Watch cases.

Apple previously used ceramic cases in its Apple Watch Edition models, but ceramic is not currently available with the Series 11, SE 3, or Ultra 3.

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are not expected to feature the major redesigns Apple is currently exploring.

For now, the round Apple Watch, screenless fitness tracker, new price tiers, and other designs remain concepts. Apple has not officially confirmed that any of these products will be released.
