New Design for Pakistani Rupee Notes Likely Soon

Pakistan may soon introduce a fresh design for its paper currency, as preparations for new Pakistani Rupee notes are nearing completion. According to sources familiar with the process, most of the groundwork has already been finalized, and the next step depends on approval from the federal cabinet.

The State Bank of Pakistan has reportedly completed its internal planning and technical coordination for the new currency series. The redesigned notes are expected to feature updated visuals along with enhanced security features aimed at reducing counterfeiting and improving durability.

However, printing will only begin after formal government approval. Currency experts say that once approved, the printing process — including plate preparation, material testing, and full-scale production — could take around two months. This means the new notes will not appear immediately.

Authorities are also considering how the rollout will take place. Options include a gradual release starting with selected denominations or introducing all denominations at once. This decision will determine how quickly the new currency reaches the public.

Officials at the printing corporation have confirmed that coordination meetings with the State Bank have already taken place to avoid technical delays. A clear rollout plan is expected once the cabinet gives its decision.

Based on current developments, the new Pakistani Rupee notes are likely to enter circulation later this year. Until then, existing currency notes will remain legal tender, and no immediate change is expected.
