Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, brought attention to the smog issue in discussions with Chinese environmentalists. During the meeting, the chief minister and the Chinese delegation explored measures to address and eliminate smog-related challenges in Punjab. A preliminary report on the causes of smog in Lahore was submitted by the Chinese experts. They emphasized that factors such as the excessive use of organic and inorganic fuels, along with high atmospheric humidity, contribute to smog. Additionally, the burning of dust and gas within households was identified as another significant cause of the smog issue.
The emissions from coal plants have been identified as a contributing factor to the smog issue in Punjab. Specific ratios of various elements, including compounds like carbon dioxide and nitrogen, play a role in the formation of smog. This atmospheric condition has been linked to various health concerns, particularly affecting teenagers and causing respiratory infections. The complex interaction of these elements results in the creation of smog, posing challenges to air quality and public health in the region.
