HugoBank Completes Licensing Process After SBP Approval

HugoBank Limited has received official regulatory approval from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), completing its licensing process and removing a major hurdle before beginning commercial operations.

The digital retail bank received the authorization on August 4, 2026, marking a significant step toward entering Pakistan’s rapidly growing digital banking and financial services market.

HugoBank said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) played an important role throughout the regulatory process by offering support, guidance and coordination with relevant government institutions.

According to the company, SIFC’s involvement helped resolve important regulatory issues and supported the successful completion of the licensing requirements. The development also highlights the importance of government coordination in helping foreign-backed businesses meet regulatory requirements in Pakistan.

HugoBank has received substantial foreign investment and is expected to contribute to the growth of digital financial services, financial inclusion and technology-driven banking in the country.
