Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a three-month winter Electricity Relief Package on Friday.

During an event celebrating Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s birth anniversary on November 9, the Prime Minister announced that the electricity relief package would be effective from December 2024 to February 2025.

He explained that domestic consumers exceeding 200 units in the protected category would receive relief up to Rs. 26.7 per unit, allowing them to save between Rs. 11.42 and Rs. 26 per unit over the winter months.

The Prime Minister further explained that the industrial sector would benefit from savings ranging from 18% to 37%, or Rs. 5.27 to Rs. 15.5 per unit, under the relief package. This measure is intended to boost industrial production, economic growth, and livelihoods. Commercial consumers, on the other hand, will receive a subsidy ranging from 34% to 47%, or Rs. 13.46 to Rs. 22.71 per unit.
