The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds in parts of Karachi today. Despite the expected showers, the city will remain humid and partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 36°C to 38°C. Winds are blowing from the northwest at 3 km/h, and humidity is currently 73%. The minimum temperature recorded over the last 24 hours was 30°C.
Pre-Monsoon System Moving In
According to the PMD, a pre-monsoon weather system began affecting eastern Sindh, including Karachi, from Saturday evening. A westerly wave is also impacting the upper and central parts of the country. Other regions such as Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan are seeing a mix of dust storms, thundershowers, and cloudy skies, with light to moderate rain recorded in several cities including Islamabad, Sialkot, Murree, and Kalam.
Safety Advisory for Residents
Amid the ongoing heat and expected rain, the PMD has urged Karachi residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor exposure during peak hours, and take safety measures. Thunderstorms and strong winds may cause damage to electric poles, trees, and billboards. The public is advised to stay indoors during heavy showers to reduce the risk of lightning and wind-related incidents.
