Pneumonia outbreak in Punjab claims a ‘record’

Six children succumbed to pneumonia-related cases, with Lahore, the capital of Punjab, witnessing a concerning surge in incidents. On a single day, 140 pneumonia cases were reported, with 60 originating from Lahore alone.

Health department statistics reveal that, in January, government hospitals in Lahore recorded 780 pneumonia cases, contributing to a total of 4900 cases in Punjab. The Children’s Hospital in Lahore admitted 60 children, as confirmed by the Punjab Health Department.

In response to the outbreak, the health department issued guidelines, urging parents to ensure their children complete the course of immunizations. Additionally, elders were advised to minimize unnecessary trips outside the home, emphasizing the importance of adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
