Mobile phone services have halted in Pakistan.

Pakistan has implemented a nationwide suspension of mobile services on election day, a move criticized by a digital rights group as “inherently undemocratic”. Following terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Karachi, the Pakistani government has temporarily suspended mobile phone services on the polling day for the general elections today.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior on Thursday, recent armed attacks have resulted in the loss of lives, necessitating “security measures” to uphold law and order and address potential threats.

Additionally, specific regions of the country are also facing the suspension of internet services. The government has stressed that these measures are crucial to thwart potential terrorist attacks and ensure the safety of the populace.
