As of Monday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that individuals in possession of expired computerized national identity cards (CNIC) will still be eligible to participate in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8.
As per the provisions outlined in the Election Act of 2017, national identity cards issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will be considered valid for voter registration and casting votes in an election, even if the cards have expired.
As of the upcoming election day on February 8, there are a total of at least 128 million registered voters eligible to exercise their right to vote in Pakistan.
