Fixed Charges on Gas Bills Could Go Up 50% Under Govt Proposal

The federal government is set to implement an increase in fixed charges for domestic gas consumers from July 1.

Sources indicate that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the proposal to maintain current gas usage tariffs for household consumers, opting instead to revise only the fixed charges to recover infrastructure and asset costs.

Under the Petroleum Division’s approved summary for the revised natural gas pricing structure for FY 2025–26, fixed charges will rise across multiple slabs:

  • Consumers previously paying Rs. 400 will now pay Rs. 600
  • Those paying Rs. 1,000 will see their charges increase to Rs. 1,500
  • Households paying Rs. 2,000 will now be required to pay Rs. 3,000
