Adenovirus spreads throughout Karachi as residents are advised to wear face masks

In Karachi, a surge of patients experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, cold, flu, and chest congestion has been observed at government hospitals over the past few weeks. Medical experts attribute this viral infection to adenoviruses.

Patients affected by adenovirus (ADV) are presenting themselves at hospitals with symptoms including headache, chills, cough, cold, fever, and an uptick in cases of diarrhea has also been observed.

According to medical experts, over a thousand individuals displaying these symptoms are seeking medical attention at government hospitals daily. On Saturday, 782 instances of ADV and acute respiratory tract infections were reported at Dr. Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital, followed by 1,275 cases on Monday.

Dr. Qalb-e-Hasan, the Emergency Department in charge at the Civil Hospital, emphasized that diseases are on the rise as a result of climate change and environmental pollution.
